Lucifer Doesn't Actually Refer to Satan?
The Truth Behind Alice Anne Bailey and Her Esoteric World View
The signs, symbols and inscriptions date from...the Sumerian civilizations..., Chaldea [Babylon], Assyria, Greece, Rome and even in Mexico and Yucatan... Some rites of the Scottish rite of Freemasonry of our Mother Jurisdiction have been in existence from time immemorial. For we teach the same grand truths, the same sublime philosophies...as those adepts of the ancient mysteries taught in their esoteric rites.

Before we begin, a few things must be defined and understood.
The term "esoteric" refers to knowledge or practices that are considered to be hidden or secret. The knowledge and practices are typically only accessible to a select group of people with specialized understanding or insight. It is often associated with mystical, spiritual, or occult subjects. Esoteric philosophy or teachings are thought of as being beyond the scope of common understanding. It is knowledge that is not suitable for every man. It is believed to offer deeper insights into the nature of reality or spiritual truths. Esoteric teachings often require an initiation and study to be fully understood. This is knowledge that cannot be made immediately apparent to the uninitiated.
The term "Gnostic" refers to a set of religious beliefs and spiritual practices that teach that personal spiritual knowledge (gnosis) is the key to understanding divine nature and achieving spiritual salvation. In other words, salvation comes from what you learn rather than through grace. It is something earned and not given. This knowledge is considered esoteric, accessible only through direct, personal spiritual experience, learning, or insight. Through spiritual knowledge, the divine spark within each individual, which has become trapped in the material world, can be liberated. Gnostics emphasize the importance of personal enlightenment or spiritual knowledge over adherence to religious teachings, personal relationship, or faith.
The term "New Age" was first used in 1875 by Helena Blavatsky, also known as Madam Blavatsky. She was a Russian spiritualist who played a significant role in establishing the Theosophical Society. Blavatsky's teachings were foundational in the development of early New Age concepts. Then in the 1940s and 1950s, the term was revitalized in connection to groups who believed in messages from extraterrestrial beings and that these messages were heralding a new era for Earth (i.e. the Age of Aquarius). It was further used by UFO religions in the 1950s, the counterculture of the 1960s, and the Human Potential Movement. Then in 1970, David Spangler considerably developed the concept of the New Age and coalesced the movement into a more coherent form.
Alice Anne Bailey: Background
Born: June 16, 1880 in Manchester, England
Moved to United States in 1907
Husbands: Walter Evans (m. 1907-1915 divorced); Foster Bailey (m. 1921)
Died: December 15, 1949
Alice Anne Bailey (formerly Alice La Trobe-Bateman) was born into a wealthy middle-class British family in Manchester, England. Her family belonged to the Anglican Church. As such, she received a proper Christian education as was befitting of her family status.
In 1902, Alice Anne Bailey was involved with evangelical work in India through her connections with the YMCA and the British Army. This is where she met her first husband, Walter Evans. It is also where she met Djwal Khul, who is also referred to as "D.K." or "The Tibetan."
In 1907, she moved to the United States with her first husband Walter Evans who became an Episcopalian priest. They divorced in 1915.
It was in 1917 that Alice Anne Bailey learned of the Theosophical Society, of which she became a member in 1918. Due to her knowledge from India and her friendship with "The Tibetan", she quickly rose to prominence within the society. This prompted her to the Theosophical Society's headquarters in Krotona in Hollywood, California. She took on the position of editor of the Theosophical Society's magazine, The Messenger, and was also a member of the Krotona committee. It was here that she met her second husband, Foster Bailey, the National Secretary of the Theosophical Society, in 1919. They married in 1921.
After a schism over ideals, Alice Anne Bailey and her husband were dismissed from the Theosophical Society. One faction was led by progressive, socialist, and Freemason Annie Besant, who was a member of the Fabian Society. The other faction was led by Alice Anne Bailey and her husband Foster Bailey. This faction pushed for the Theosophical Society to return to the original teachings and work of Helena Petrovna Blavatsky.
Lucis Trust, the Beacon, and the Lucifer Publishing Company
12 “How you are fallen from heaven,
O Lucifer, son of the morning!
How you are cut down to the ground,
You who weakened the nations!
13 For you have said in your heart:
‘I will ascend into heaven,
I will exalt my throne above the stars of God;
I will also sit on the mount of the congregation
On the farthest sides of the north;
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds,
I will be like the Most High.’
Isaiah 14:12-14 (NKJV)
Note: Lucifer in this context could mean "Venus, son of the morning" if you are translating from the Hebrew "helel ben-shachar." If you are translating from a Greek translation of the text, it translates "heosphoros" into "Morning star." If you are translating from the Latin Vulgate translation of the text, the word translates into "lucifer" or "light bearer." Regardless of the translation, we are speaking about the same person. And this text isn't flattering for that person. If you read the entirety of Isaiah, this chapter is speaking of the destruction of Babylon, Assyria, Phillistia, and their kings. This idea is further cemented in the Venus translation as it refers to a son. Venus is traditionally referred to in the feminine. The use of the word son isn't feminine. Did you think gender confusion was a new idea?
Bible Hermeneutics: Is Lucifer a proper name of Satan according to Isaiah 14:12?
In 1922, Alice Anne Bailey and her husband Foster Bailey founded the Lucis Trust. In April 1922, the first issue of a magazine called The Beacon was published.
A publishing company, initially named Lucifer Publishing Company, was established by Alice and Foster Bailey in the State of New Jersey, USA, in May 1922 to publish the book, Initiation Human and Solar. The ancient myth of Lucifer refers to the angel who brought light to the world, and it is assumed that the name was applied to the publishing company in honour of a journal, which had been edited for a number of years by theosophical founder, HP Blavatsky. It soon became clear to the Bailey’s that some Christian groups have traditionally mistakenly identified Lucifer with Satan, and for this reason the company’s name was changed in 1924 to Lucis Publishing Company.
Considering that her first husband was an Episcopalian priest and she had a tradition and educated upbringing within the Anglican Church, I think it is safe to say that the use of the word Lucifer was intentional. However, Lucis Trust will tell you differently.
The Esoteric Meaning of Lucifer
There are comments on the World Wide Web claiming that the Lucis Trust was once called the Lucifer Trust. Such was never the case. However, for a brief period of two or three years in the early 1920’s, when Alice and Foster Bailey were beginning to publish the books published under her name, they named their fledgling publishing company “Lucifer Publishing Company”. By 1925 the name was changed to Lucis Publishing Company and has remained so ever since. Both “Lucifer” and “Lucis” come from the same word root, lucis being the Latin generative case meaning of light. The Baileys' reasons for choosing the original name are not known to us, but we can only surmise that they, like the great teacher H.P. Blavatsky, for whom they had enormous respect, sought to elicit a deeper understanding of the sacrifice made by Lucifer. Alice and Foster Bailey were serious students and teachers of Theosophy, a spiritual tradition which views Lucifer as one of the solar Angels, those advanced Beings Who Theosophy says descended (thus “the fall”) from Venus to our planet eons ago to bring the principle of mind to what was then animal-man. In the theosophical perspective, the descent of these solar Angels was not a fall into sin or disgrace but rather an act of great sacrifice, as is suggested in the name “Lucifer” which means light-bearer.
A beacon is a device that emits light. By their own admission, Lucifer and Lucis both come from the same root word meaning the light. Why would a woman who had a Christian education make a reference to something she knew would directly reference Satan?
From Bill Cooper's book Behold A Pale Horse (p. 71):
The most important of all of these ancient groups is the Brotherhood of the Snake, or Dragon, and was simply known as the Mysteries. The snake and dragon are symbols that represent wisdom. The father of wisdom is Lucifer, also called the Light Bearer. The focus of worship for the Mysteries was Osiris, another name of Lucifer. Osiris was the name of a bright star that the ancients believed had been cast down onto the earth. The literal meaning of Lucifer is "bringer of light" or "the morning star." After Osiris was gone from the sky, the ancients saw the Sun as the representation of Osiris, or more correctly, Lucifer.
Osiris was represented by the sun.
Albert PikeHow art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer...
Isaiah 14:12.It is claimed that, after Lucifer fell from Heaven, he brought with him the power of thinking as a gift for mankind.
Fred Gittings,
Symbolism in Occult Art
And according to Lucis Trust's own website, Lucifer being a reference to Satan wasn't a new idea. The people of that time put social pressure on Lucifer Publishing Company. It became renamed to Lucis Publishing Company after a few years due to this pressure.
But even then they still reference Satan, or the serpent, in their description of Lucifer. Excerpts from Lucis Trust's paper on The Esoteric Meaning of Lucifer:
The secret of the "fallen angels" is essentially the mystery which lies behind the very Plan of evolution, for the solar angels' willingness to "fall", to sacrifice themselves in order to bring the light of the principle of mind to what was then animal man, marked the coming into action of the great Law of Duality by which matter, form—negative and passive—could be quickened by spirit.
...
Esoterically, the role of Guardian Angel was made possible by the sacrifice of the solar angels in their preservation of the principle of mind or, occultly, fire, through persistent repeated incarnations in form until animal man became thinking man and, finally, began to awaken to his true spiritual heritage: human/divine man.
Even in these passages we see reference to the story of when Eve ate from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil to become like God. According to these beliefs, it wasn't a sin. The expulsion from the Garden of Eden was merely an evolutionary process.
11 Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 12 “Son of man, take up a lamentation for the king of Tyre, and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord God:
“You were the seal of perfection,
Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
13 You were in Eden, the garden of God;
Every precious stone was your covering:
The sardius, topaz, and diamond,
Beryl, onyx, and jasper,
Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold.
The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes
Was prepared for you on the day you were created.
14 “You were the anointed cherub who covers;
I established you;
You were on the holy mountain of God;
You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones.
15 You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created,
Till iniquity was found in you.
16 “By the abundance of your trading
You became filled with violence within,
And you sinned;
Therefore I cast you as a profane thing
Out of the mountain of God;
And I destroyed you, O covering cherub,
From the midst of the fiery stones.
17 “Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty;
You corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor;
I cast you to the ground,
I laid you before kings,
That they might gaze at you.
18 “You defiled your sanctuaries
By the multitude of your iniquities,
By the iniquity of your trading;
Therefore I brought fire from your midst;
It devoured you,
And I turned you to ashes upon the earth
In the sight of all who saw you.
19 All who knew you among the peoples are astonished at you;
You have become a horror,
And shall be no more forever.” ’ ”
Ezekiel 28: 11-19 (New King James Version)
Lucis Trust and The Arcane School
Initiation, or the process of undergoing an expansion of consciousness, is part of the normal process of evolutionary development.
PDF: Initiation, Human and Solar by Alice Anne Bailey, 1924 (p 17)
In 1923, Alice Anne Bailey founded the Arcane School.
I mention this for the benefit of United Lodge of Theosophists and for those who claim that the true Theosophical lineage descends from Helena Petrovna Blavatsky via William Quan Judge. All the Theosophy that I knew had been taught me by personal friends and pupils of Helena Petrovna Blavatsky and this Mr. Prater recognised. Later he gave me the esoteric section instructions as given to him by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky. They are identical with those I had seen when in the esoteric section but they were given to me with no strings attached to them at all and I have been at liberty to use them at any time and have used them. When he died many years ago his theosophical library came into our hands with all the old Lucifers and all the old editions of the Theosophical magazine, plus other esoteric papers which he had received from Helena Petrovna Blavatsky.
Among the papers which he gave me was one in which Helena Petrovna Blavatsky expressed her wish that the esoteric section should be called the Arcane School. It never was and I made up my mind that the old lady should have her wish and that was how the school came to get its name. I regarded it as a great privilege and happiness to know Mr. Prater.
The Arcane School primarily teaches esoteric practices with a slant towards personal and global transformation. This came in the form of the following:
Spiritual Education - The Arcane School offers courses on fostering spiritual growth, self-realization, and personal evolution.
Esoteric Wisdom - The school delves into esoteric and occult knowledge, drawing from various spiritual traditions, including Theosophy, Madam Blavatsky, and the teachings of Alice Anne Bailey herself. They explore topics like the seven rays, spiritual hierarchy, and the evolution of consciousness.
Meditation and Visualization - Meditation is a central practice in the Arcane School, with a focus on inner contemplation, visualization, and alignment with higher spiritual principles. These practices are meant to help individuals connect with their inner selves and higher spiritual realities.
New Age Practices - The Arcane School incorporates elements of what is referred to as the New Age movement. It emphasizes a serious and disciplined approach to spiritual growth.
Religious and Spiritual Beliefs - The Arcane School draws inspiration from various spiritual traditions including the mystery religions, esoteric philosophy, and Gnostic teachings. It promotes the idea of a universal spirituality that transcends religious boundaries called the god-consciousness or Christ consciousness. Its teachings often align with the belief in a spiritual hierarchy of advanced beings guiding human evolution. These beings are also known as Ascended Masters, Masters of Wisdom, or Mahatmas.
Service to Humanity - The school encourages its students to engage in acts of service to humanity and the planet. This is done through global initiatives, like those which support the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals. This aligns with their belief in the importance of working for the betterment of a world society and contributing to the spiritual evolution of humanity. This may also be called global or planetary service.
Universal Spirituality - The school does not adhere to one specific religious doctrine. Instead they promote the idea of a universal spirituality, or one world religion, that transcends religious boundaries. It seeks to unify spiritual principles from various traditions and emphasizes the unity of all life. Esoteric teachings will suggest that the essence of Jesus' teachings aligns with the core spiritual truths found in various belief systems. In the example of Christianity, Jesus is not seen as the Son of God but instead as an Ascended Master.
Seven Rays - Seven rays represent different aspects of divine energy and influence that shape human consciousness and individual characteristics. Students explore how the rays manifest in their lives and how they can work with these energies for personal and spiritual growth.
Karma and Reincarnation -The concept of karma and reincarnation are core beliefs and tie into spiritual evolution as well as human evolution.
Sacred Geometry and Symbolism - Students explore how geometric shapes and symbols are used to represent spiritual truths and principles.
Esoteric Psychology - Esoteric psychology delves into the understanding of the human psyche from a spiritual perspective, which includes the study of the soul, its faculties, and its evolution.
Sound and Vibrational Healing - This is the use of sound and vibration for healing and spiritual attunement. This can involve practices like chanting, toning, or working with sacred sounds.
Esoteric Cosmology - This explores the structure of the universe and its relationship to spiritual realities. This can involve the study of higher planes of existence and their influence on human life. It may also involved the influence of celestial bodies and cosmic energies on human consciousness and evolution. Astrology can be a part of this exploration.
Ritual and Ceremony - Rituals and ceremonies are used as tools for inner transformation and spiritual connection. These practices are often conducted with reverence and symbolism.
Inner Christ Consciousness - "Christ Consciousness" is taught as being a state of higher awareness and spiritual realization that Jesus embodied. This teaches that all individuals have the potential to attain the same level of higher spiritual awareness as Jesus. They teach that this is a symbol of the divine spark within each person.
Universal Spiritual Teacher - Jesus is seen as a universal spiritual teacher who imparted wisdom and teachings that transcend all religious boundaries. They teach that He wasn't the Son of God who died for our sins, but is instead a great teacher and master who ascended. His message is often interpreted in a broader spiritual context and often taught as being allegorical.
Some of these teachings originate with Alice Anne Bailey. Others come from other New Age religions and branches of New Age ideology and teachings. Alice Anne Bailey claimed that her teachings weren't even hers but those taught to her through an Ascended Master called "the Tibetan" Djwhal Khul.
Bailey claimed her works were telepathically received from "the Tibetan" Djwhal Khul. Khul predicted a new world government and world religion to be galvanized by "the reappearance of the Christ." This Christ is not Jesus Christ of the Bible but an advanced member of a spiritual hierarchy whose reappearance must be summoned by "The Great Invocation," a prayer widely distributed by Bailey's followers. Bailey expected the New Age to dawn after a global crisis occurred which could be rectified only by "the Christ." But, she believed we can offset our present futility and frustration and find incentive toward building a new world through the belief in the essential divinity of humanity. A "new world religion" will result, eclipsing traditional Christianity.

Lucis Trust, World Goodwill, and the United Nations
From Alice Anne Bailey's Unfinished Autobiography:
At the time of the second phase of the World War, which started in 1939, many pacifists and well meaning, though unthinking, people among the students of the Arcane School and the general public, which we could succeed in reaching, took the position that I had written the pamphlets and papers endorsing the United Nations and the need to defeat the Axis Powers, and that the Tibetan was not responsible for the anti-Nazi point of view of these articles.
Lucis Trust has ties to and works with the United Nations.
The Lucis Trust has Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC) and World Goodwill is recognized by the Department of Global Communications at the United Nations as a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO). As such the Trust and World Goodwill are part of a community of many hundreds of NGOs that play an active role in the United Nations, particularly in spreading information about the UN and fostering support for UN programs. Since their inception Lucis Trust and World Goodwill have given their support through meditation, educational materials and seminars, by highlighting the importance of the UN's goals and activities as they represent the voice of the peoples and nations of the world.
In 1932, Alice Anne Bailey founded the World Goodwill. It was formed on the premise of working towards a global goal or agenda.
World Goodwill programs and publications are administered by an international group operating through headquarters in London, New York and Geneva. There is no membership and programs are available to all people of goodwill without charge. The work is funded entirely by donations.
Alongside countless other groups, World Goodwill is an accredited Nongovernmental Organization with the Department of Public Information at the United Nations. It maintains informal relations with a wide range of national and international nongovernmental organizations. The Lucis Trust is on the Roster of the United Nations Economic and Social Council. World Goodwill strongly believes that the UN should be supported as the main hope for humanity’s future.
Aren't the United Nations citizen ambassador program called United Nations Goodwill Ambassadors and Messengers of Peace?
United Nations Goodwill Ambassadors and Messengers of Peace are distinguished individuals, carefully selected from the fields of art, literature, science, entertainment, sports or other fields of public life, who have agreed to help focus worldwide attention on the work of the United Nations. Backed by the highest honour bestowed by the Secretary-General on a global citizen, these prominent personalities volunteer their time, talent and passion to raise awareness of United Nations efforts to improve the lives of billions of people everywhere.
The United Nations lists Lucis Trust as being established in 1952. In 1952, the United Nations unveiled the Meditation Room.
We all have within us a center of stillness surrounded by silence.
This house, dedicated to work and debate in the service of peace, should have one room dedicated to silence in the outward sense and stillness in the inner sense.
It has been the aim to create in this small room a place where the doors may be open to the infinite lands of thought and prayer.
People of many faiths will meet here, and for that reason none of the symbols to which we are accustomed in our meditation could be used.
However, there are simple things which speak to us all with the same language. We have sought for such things and we believe that we have found them in the shaft of light striking the shimmering surface of solid rock.
So, in the middle of the room we see a symbol of how, daily, the light of the skies gives life to the earth on which we stand, a symbol to many of us of how the light of the spirit gives life to matter.
But the stone in the middle of the room has more to tell us. We may see it as an altar, empty not because there is no God, not because it is an altar to an unknown god, but because it is dedicated to the God whom man worships under many names and in many forms.
The stone in the middle of the room reminds us also of the firm and permanent in a world of movement and change. The block of iron ore has the weight and solidity of the everlasting. It is a reminder of that cornerstone of endurance and faith on which all human endeavour must be based.
The material of the stone leads our thoughts to the necessity for choice between destruction and construction, between war and peace. Of iron man has forged his swords, of iron he has also made his ploughshares. Of iron he has constructed tanks, but of iron he has likewise built homes for man. The block of iron ore is part of the wealth we have inherited on this earth of ours. How are we to use it?
The shaft of light strikes the stone in a room of utter simplicity. There are no other symbols, there is nothing to distract our attention or to break in on the stillness within ourselves. When our eyes travel from these symbols to the front wall, they meet a simple pattern opening up the room to the harmony, freedom and balance of space.
There is an ancient saying that the sense of a vessel is not in its shell but in the void. So it is with this room. It is for those who come here to fill the void with what they find in their center of stillness.
In 1989, Lucis Trust registered as a Nongovernmental Organization (NGO) that works with the United Nations. Sustainable development is listed under Lucis Trust's area of expertise and field of activity. In 1989, a two-week conference took place. The end result was the full text of Agenda 21 which was made public at the UN Conference on Environment and Development (Earth Summit) in Rio de Janeiro on June 13, 1992. Governments from 178 nations voted to adopt it.
Ultimately, Agenda 21 evolved into Agenda 2030 in 2015. Agenda 2030 is known by another name - the Sustainable Development Goals.
In order to place a closer focus on the work of the United Nations, and in particular the Sustainable Development Goals, the blog World Goodwill provides up-to-date reports on important UN meetings and processes. The new Sustainable Development Goals for humanity set a transformative agenda for the fifteen year period 2015 – 2030. Never before has there been such a broad-based dialogue and negotiation between governments, civil society, business and academia to determine achievable goals and targets.
In 2000, the Spiritual Caucus at the United Nations was formed. It is a caucus of Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs). Its purpose is stated as this:
The Spiritual Caucus supports the aims of the United Nations as expressed in the Preamble to the UN Charter.
We seek to balance and strengthen the endeavors of the UN system and its affiliates with inner reflection and stillness.
Lucis Trust's World Goodwill is listed as both a Resource and holds a position on its Council.
It is important to note the locations of Lucis Trust.
Lucis Trust is administered through three separate educational charities, registered in the USA, UK and Switzerland, with offices in New York, London and Geneva.
The United Nations has locations in New York, London, and Geneva. Lucis Trust is located across the street from the United Nations in New York and London.
Listed as one of World Goodwill's objectives, it states this as one of its goals:
To foster a universal spiritual perspective on the future, centered on the idea that all faiths throughout history have anticipated an age of peace and justice, ushered in by a World Teacher Who embodies divine principles. The rising tide of goodwill in the world today is a sign that the appearance of such a teacher, expected by different traditions under such names as the Christ, the Kalki Avatar, the Bodhisattva, Lord Maitreya, the Imam Mahdi, and the Messiah, is now imminent.
Does this sound like one of their objects is to help usher the appearance of the being who would traditionally be known as the Antichrist?
Lucis Trust and Triangles
What is the universal symbol associated with the New World Order?
In 1937, Alice Anne Bailey founded her Triangles program. The principle behind this program was a core aspect of Alice Anne Bailey's esoteric and spiritual teachings. It involves groups of three people engaging in meditation and visualization within that group. Basically, this is an active form of meditation as they try to link in thought. The participants focus on radiating love and light through the triangular connection they establish within their group. The aim is to promote and distribute spiritual energies globally, fostering a network of light and goodwill. The Triangles program encourages individuals to contribute to this spiritual network.
During this group meditation, the Great Invocation is used. Lucis Trust teaches that the use of this invocation is an act of service to humanity. It reads as follows:
THE GREAT INVOCATION
From the point of Light within the mind of God
Let light stream forth into human minds
Let Light descend on Earth.From the point of Love within the Heart of God
Let love stream forth into human hearts
May the Coming One return to Earth.From the centre where the Will of God is known
Let purpose guide all little human wills
The purpose which the Masters know and serve.From the centre which we call the human race
Let the Plan of Love and Light work out
And may it seal the door where evil dwells.Let Light and Love and Power restore the Plan on Earth.
After Alice Anne Bailey's death, Lucis Trust continued supporting this program by providing resources and guidance. Bulletins are published for members and other interested individuals which provides information and gives updates about the program's activities and achievements.

This is awesome! Thank you! It seems as if this is all about mixing it all up and ruling over it! Very ambitious! shrewd thinking!
Thank you for your amazing work on connecting all the these dots. I knew of the New Age teachings in the 1800s and - 1900s but did not associate it with the goal of a one world governance until your article, including the obviously close relationship with the UN. They obviously have removed Christ’s sacrifice and like so many others, made their universal ‘religion’ a system of works instead of the gift of grace. This article, like your others, peels away another layer of falsity. Symbolism and connections will bring down this globalist regime. Thank you and may God bless you.🙏🙏
