Satanic Ritual Abuse: Satanic Holiday in Maywood, Californiam 2011
Content Warning: This article describes abuse and may not be appropriate for every reader.
There is a difference between different types of abuse. The way I have always described it is like this.
Sexual abuse includes sex.
Physical abuse usually involves highly emotional states of mind and/or situations (such as rage), alcohol, and/or narcotics. This emotional state can include rage, frustration, etc. It involves an eruption of violence.
Spousal abuse involves a spouse, domestic partner, or some type of romantic relationship.
Mental abuse is an attempt to break down another person's psyche and/or who they are. This can come from an heightened emotional state, pleasure, or a sense of superiority.
Emotional abuse tears down another person's emotional health and/or self-worth. Again, this can come from an heightened emotional state, pleasure, or a sense of superiority.
Torture is the opposite of this. In fact, it is almost cold or calculated with almost no heightened emotions involved. Some professionals will tell you that there can be an adrenaline rush with torture. Personally, I would classify that as sadism.
With sadism there is an emotional high, adrenaline rush, or some other heightened sense of gratification involved.
All of these can be present in a particular abuse situation or it may be limited to just one or two. Am I right? I don't know. But this explanation made the most sense to me. It is what fit the description between different cases. It is also a very simplistic view and an incomplete list.
The point is that these aren't just ambiguous terms. They are very specific and fit very specific scenarios or circumstances. You wouldn't say someone who was strictly emotionally or verbally abused was also physically abused when there was no violence present.
The reason I am pointing this out is because when someone says they were a victim of Satanic Ritual Abuse, they are referring to two very specific things happening during the course of their abuse. The abuse included some sort of ritual and or ceremony. The abuse included a spiritual or religious context to it.
Some people would label this spiritual or religious context as being strictly Satanic. This is a mistake. There are many practices from many religions and fringe cults that don't necessarily fall under the label of Satan. While I would agree these are Satanic in nature, I would not limit myself to purely looking for devil worshipers or Satanists. After all, my last article happened in a Church of God. These incidents can happen under the guise of any religion. Every religion has false teachers and practitioners. You also cannot discount those individuals who are so mentally broken they cannot coexist with society.
Again, I am writing about this because people will tell you that Satanic Ritual Abuse is a fantasy. They ignore all the cases that have been tried that involve it. To be fair, it isn't like you are going to find those exact words in a headline.
This is one where the victim did not survive and happens to involve cannibalism. Unfortunately, many times these victims do not survive.
In 2011, Moises Meraz-Espinoza walked into the Huntington Park Police Department. He wanted to report a crime. He had killed and eaten his mother.
The police went to his apartment and found a gruesome scene. If you want the details of that scene, the articles linked below describe it in detail. I am going to focus on only the details that highlight the Satanic and ritual aspects of this case.
In terms of the Satanic aspect, two upside-down crosses were carved into the woman's skull. Other bones bore similar markings. Excerpts of one of those articles states:
On Wednesday, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Thomas I. McKnew Jr. sentenced Meraz-Espinoza to 25 years to life in prison, saying that the slaying “certainly ranks up there at the top” of “the most disgusting, hideous and vulgar” cases he has seen during his 50 years in the legal profession.
Initial reports speculated that Meraz-Espinoza was depressed over his girlfriend’s recent death when he killed his mother. But Deputy Dist. Atty. Heba Matta, who prosecuted the case, said he was more motivated by satanic beliefs, which he was “heavily entrenched in.”
Matta said Meraz-Espinoza has numerous tattoos that draw on satanic imagery, such as upside-down crosses and a 666 behind his right ear. Authorities recovered his copy of a satanic bible near the crime scene.

As far as the ritualistic aspect of the abuse and murder:
The date he chose to strangle and dismember his mother, Feb. 2, 2011, also fell on a day in the satanic calendar that calls for ritual human or animal sacrifice.
“This crime was not in the heat of passion or rash and impulsive,” Matta said. “It was done for the purpose of devotion. That’s pretty much the ultimate sacrifice.”
“This was sheerly motivated by evil,” Matta said.

The Satanic Temple and Church of Satan will deny that February 2nd is a holiday. The Thelemic calendar (Aleister Crowley's brand of Satanism and magic) doesn't either. However, every other Satanic, Gnostic, Wiccan, and pagan belief systems and organizations out there will tell you that it is and is called Candlemas, the Feast of Lucifer, Imbolc, or the Feast of Fire.
There are many different flavors to Satanism. It literally covers everything from believing and worshiping the devil and demons to being a witch in a coven to being agnostic or even atheist. So it is very likely that Moises Meraz-Espinoza was a Satanist given the symbols left at the scene, treatment of the bones, personal tattoos, and presence of a satanic bible.
I will note that the defending attorney tried to argue the Satanic aspects of this case due to the fact that organizations such as the Satanic Temple and Church of Satan don't hold February 2nd to be a holiday.

is it in their 'religion' that they have to tell someone or tell about it in some form to others or publicly?
