I never heard of Sybil and her Midnight ride. Her youth gave her the energy to make that 40 miles ride. She was a Patriot. I hope she had a good life.

A 40 mile ride in the dark and through stormy weather probably seems like not a big deal to many, but given the severity of the situation, she was quite courageous! One wonders if that was one of the longest trips she’d ever made, given that horseback was their means of travel (or wagon/coach) and many in those days rarely ever traveled anywhere except to the next town or a neighboring farm. And she did it without a cell phone & GPS! I’d say not many 16 yr olds today would be up to the task without their smart devices, in the dark, with no highways! We’ve become a nation with no backbone!
