There are politicians who run on platforms that state that they want to abolish the income tax.
One problem. There is no federal personal income tax law to abolish.
For the last 50 years, the entire federal establishment has been engaged in fraud. They have been actually putting people in jail and seizing their property for violating laws that don't exist.
The entire federal judiciary branch is one of the biggest collection of criminals in this country.
They have been putting people in jail ILLEGALLY. They have been allowing the IRS to seize property ILLEGALLY. And when one spouse gets charged with tax evasion, they will threaten to charge the other spouse with a felony if a guilty plea isn't entered.
This isn't how a government acts. This is how the MAFIA acts. By threatening people and extorting them. If you are afraid of paying taxes because you will be imprisoned and your property will be seized, then you aren't paying taxes. You are paying an extortion. You are paying a bribe. You are paying because you are being blackmailed. And that extortion isn't coming from your elected representatives. It is coming from a federal agency and the judiciary branch of the federal government.
The Case of Irwin Schiff
Irwin Schiff wrote and promoted literature in which he argued that the way in which the income tax in the United States is enforced upon individuals as a tax on one's time or wages, is illegal and unconstitutional. He isn't wrong.
However, he was taken to court for tax evasion. The judges in his cases ruled in favor of the federal government and the IRS. Irwin Schiff went to prison to serve a 13.5 year sentence. From the beginning of that sentence, Irwin Schiff was placed in a hospital prison due to his health. He stayed there until the time of his death on October 16, 2015.
There Is No Law: The $50,000 Challenge
On July 7, 2000, an ad was placed in the newspaper USA Today. In the body of that ad was a challenge to find the law that forces Americans to pay an income tax. That challenge, according to the below video, has not been won.
I did not find the original ad. But I did find this Fact Check by USA Today. In it, it states that:
The 16th Amendment of the Constitution, ratified in 1913, established Congress' right to impose a federal income tax, according to the National Archives and Records Administration. Article 1, Section 8, Clause 1 of the Constitution gives Congress the power to lay and collect taxes for the welfare of the nation, as long as these taxes are uniform throughout the U.S., according to the National Constitution Center.
Title 26 of the U.S. Code allows Congress to delegate the enforcement of these tax laws (known as the Internal Revenue Code) to the IRS, according to a pamphlet published by the IRS titled "Why Do I Have To Pay Taxes?"

Whether you believe the 16th Amendment of the Constitution was properly ratified or not is immaterial. Don't pay your taxes and you WILL face a penalty. Here is my issue with this.
Article I, Section 8, Clause 1 states that:
The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States; but all duties, imposts and excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;
As such, the federal income tax is not uniform throughout the United States. There are tax brackets, deductions, tax penalties, tax breaks, and so forth throughout the IRS Tax Code. The law regarding these differences is convoluted and comes in a book thicker than an English language dictionary. It certainly has more words than the US Constitution and definitely more wordy than Article I, Section 8, Clause 1.
A lot of people take issue with the 16th Amendment, which states:
The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.
My issue isn't with taxes per se. My issue is that the taxes are egregious and ununiform.
On top of that, taxes are supposed to be levied for the purpose of providing to the "general welfare of the United States." I can say without doubt that none of my taxes have ever been used for the "general welfare of the United States." They have solely been used to the detriment of the United States and to pay its debts.

Voluntary Compliance
Why is it mandatory if the law states it is voluntary to comply?
If you could be placed in jail for what you put on your IRS Form 1040, would this be a violation of the 5th Amendment?
I am taxed for many things. Very few would fall under income. What about the fair exchange I receive for my labor? Is this a gain or profit? Would you consider it income? I wouldn't.
Do Supreme Court decisions apply to the IRS?
But everyone knows that you have to pay income taxes... and if you don't, YOU WILL BE FINED. YOU WILL BE IMPRISONED. YOUR PRIVATE PROPERTY WILL BE TAKEN. This is a guarantee. Don't believe me? Just look at how many people are in prison right now for tax evasion.

Excessive taxation is theft! And the Chairman said that we are using the power of the federal government in this bill. You're darn right you are. You're using the power of the federal government — for armed robbery on the taxpayers.

This statement is incorrect. Congress already had the right to impose a federal income tax.
All the 16th amendment did was to clarify that because all income taxes are inherently indirect, they do not need to be apportioned. It reversed the pollock decision which treated certain income taxes as direct in the limited circumstance where the source of the income was the ownership of property.
